What you need

An iPhone with Safari and a FaxCan account. Early access is a waitlist right now.

Step by step

  1. Open FaxCan and add your document: take a photo, pick from Photos, or pick a PDF from Files. iPhone HEIC photos are fine.
  2. Enter the fax number and, if you like, a cover sheet.
  3. Check the page preview. Photos are turned the right way up, fitted to a letter page and converted to the black-and-white image a fax machine prints.
  4. Tap confirm. Watch the status change from dialling to delivered.
  5. The receipt with the PDF arrives by email.

Tips for a readable fax from a phone photo

Use daylight or a bright room, lay the page flat on a dark surface, and fill the frame with the page. A fax is 200 dots per inch and black-and-white, so faint pencil and colour highlighting often won't show.

What happens to the photo

We don't keep your documents. The PDF comes to your email, then we delete our copy, and the copy on our carrier account, within 24 hours at most.
